The Poinsett Collective is a place where people come together to create, play, socialize and expand their opportunities in a shared setting. We are striving to create an environment consisting of a collection of artists, craftsmen, designers, entrepreneurs, brewers and restaurateurs within the Poinsett Corridor in hopes to build community, commerce and opportunity.
We are a small family business that wants to give back to the community that has given so much to us. To that end we are looking for the type of tenant who wants to be part of something bigger, to be an active member of the community. If you are looking for a place to grow and feel good about your business while giving back, the Poinsett Collective is the right choice.
Rosewater Investments is proud to present space at the Poinsett Collective for lease. “The Piedmont Shirt Factory” was the beginning of Max Heller’s career and influence to Greenville and the state of South Carolina. This newly renovated building saw Mr. Heller grow from stock boy to manager of the company, He then became mayor of Greenville starting in 1971 and for the next 8 years he was focused on desegregating the municipality’s boards and commissions as well as work diligently for affordable housing. It is with this in mind that the Poinsett Collective was created and designed.
A former textile mill with significant historical importance to Greenville, The Piedmont Shirt Factory, was the first textile company in Greenville to hire black women for inside jobs. Less known but significant is Piedmont Shirt’s empowerment of African American women. South Carolina’s Jim Crow laws were usually rigidly enforced; Piedmont Shirt ignored them. It was one of the few companies in the 1930s, 40s and 50s that offered black women reasonable jobs that included free life and health insurance, healthcare and scheduled holidays.
The Collective is dedicated to preserving the building's historic significance while using uniquely inspired designs to restore it's beauty. The use of reclaimed and repurposed materials along with sustainable energy sources like solar power create an engaging and responsible environment that we can all be proud of.
There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and schedule a visit to learn all there is to know about us. We hope you will be just as excited about The Collective as we are.
